Nikon D40 question.?
So, I have scoured Y!A, as well as Ken Rockwell's website, dpreview, etc. for any info I can find on the D40, and I think I have made the decision to buy it. That being said, I was wondering what some Y!A D40 owners have to say about it? Also, I have a few questions...
1) How important are UV filters? Is it worth waiting to save up for a "higher quality", more expensive filter (like Hoya or Tiffen) as opposed to buying something like Sunpak?
2) Will the D40 preform well in low light situations?
3) How large of an issue is it to not have the internal focus motor? (I don't own any Nikon lenses, anyway...)
4) How do you feel the kit lens performs?
5) Maybe the things you like or dislike the most about this camera, of you have one?

AND thanks qrk, these are both great answers!
1) Using a UV filter protects the front element of your lens .... I use Hoya Around $20
2) You can shoot using the camera at 3200 ISO with noise about the same as the grain encountered when shooting 3200 ISO film ... use a tripod
3) Nikon makes 29 AF-S lenses that the D40 uses in the auto-focus mode. There are many more used AF-I and AF-S lenses made over the past 20 years.
4) The AF-S 18-55 mm ED lens is a good lens ...

5) It is a camera that is not so big that you will leave it home. Many people who have the standard size DSLR's (like the D300 with a MB-10D) only carry their cameras with them when the plan on taking photos ...
